BMW announced its new 6 Series Gran Coupe in Mumbai on November 8. The company plans to launch new models including 1 Series. BMW Sedan version are to be in Rs 23-26 lakh and model range will be produced at the BMW Chennai facility.
BMW is expected to offer two different engine options, 118i and 120D. The 120d will be equipped with 2-liter oil burner in the 320D currently in India. The 2-liter oil burner will develop 179PS of power at 4,000rpm. And torque will be same at 320Nm@1750 rpm to 3000 rpm. And 1.8-liter engine will produce 145PS of power at 4000 rpm and 300nm of torque at 1750 rpm to 2500 rpm. Both engines have a claimed overall fuel consumption of 14kmpl for the petrol and 18kmpl for the diesel. The engine will be mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox for both variants.
BMW 1 Series is expected to be the the BMW ‘ConnectedDrive’ technology, SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, bi-xenon headlamps and more.
The entry level BMW 1 Series will be among the six models to be produced By the Chennai facility by 2013 end.
