Car gas prices are on the rise all
across the world. If you are from the Delhi-NCR region in India, you must be
knowing by now that Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL), the agency distributing CNG
in the national capital and surrounding region, has already decided to up
retail prices of the gas by about Rs 1.10 per kg effective from April 1 this
year. So, if you are still at loss as in how to take care of your car to
save on gas, here are few important tips:

Tune up your car at regular intervals. Cars in poor running conditions
consume more gas. But that doesn't mean you have to rev up its engine every
single time. Revving up engines wastes gas needlessly. So, better check out.
Be judicious while using air conditioner on the drive. Unnecessary cooling
is bad for a car's gas mileage. And yes, do not keep your windows open while
driving at high speed, for that causes additional drag. But then, for the
best results drive within the speed limit.
Do not overfill your car tyres. High tyre pressure affects fuel efficiency
rather badly.
Do a quick recap of your
driving basics that
you learnt back in your driving school - no stop and go traffic
driving, and no idling your car engine for long periods of time. Both are
very harmful for your car's gas mileage. And if you remember, they also
asked you not to accelerate in a rush when leaving the red light. Pick up
slowly. It's good for your car's fuel economy. Don't waste your money on
high-priced car gas. If a low-grade or octane of gasoline is available at
the pump, and your car can support it, fine go for it. Whoever told
you that expensive premium fuels boost your car's fuel mileage, is wrong. It
doesn't.
Do not overload your car's fuel tank with excess gasoline. In any case,
it's not going to help your car fuel-wise. So, why waste money on
overtopping? And yes, before you check out from the pump, do check if your
car's gas cap is placed and tightened properly, because loose caps lead to
gas leakage.
Replace your car's clogged air filter with a cleaner and better one. It
improves your car's gas mileage by as much as 15 percent! So, please do not
skimp on maintenance.
Finally, keep in mind a few small things: plan your trips well beforehand
to avoid needless driving, keep your car clutter-free, look for shade while
parking your car in summer, and get a garage for yourself to give your car a
comfort rest. All these help you gain on gas efficiency in the long run.
