Refined and Redefined The Legend Has Arrived

The iconic US motorbike manufacturer Harley Davidson has finally arrived in Indian markets on August 27th 2009. The global leader in cruising and touring motorcycles – Harley Davidson has set up its subsidiary in Gurgaon, Haryana, but the motorcycles will be on sale in only in 2010. However, no announcements have been made about the models that would be launched in Indian market. Meanwhile, the automaker has started seeking dealers to establish itself firmly on Indian land.

Currently Harley Davidson plans to import its motorbikes, riding gear and accessories to the Indian market. As it grows, eventually it will chalk out ways to evolve the company's growth in the Indian markets. In the year 2007, Harley Davidson had got permission to move into Indian market, but the move was crushed due to more than 100% import duties. At present, the import duty charged on HD motorbikes is up to 60%.

Announcing its plans to foray into Indian automobile market, the company's president and COO Matthew Levatich said, “We believe Harley-Davidson has outstanding opportunities for continued growth around the world. As a first step, we are looking for local dealer partners who share our passion and commitment to building customer relationships, the Harley-Davidson brand and our business in India for the long term. Given the rapid development of India's economy and physical infrastructure, this is exactly the right time to bring the world's greatest motorcycles to one of the world's largest motorcycling nations. We are committed to India for the long-term, and we are focused right now on establishing a strong foundation.”

One of the strongest brands in the world, Harley Davidson has its network in more than 70 countries across the globe.

The Harley-Davidson bikes range between 883 cc to 1550cc. It is expected that the starting price of Harley Davidson motorbikes will be Rs. 7 Lakhs to Indian buyers.
